Yesterday I finally upgraded to Win10 from Win81. I also updated the driver for my graphics card (GeForce 950M). The process wasn't entirely without troube, so I am unsure how stable my system is at the moment. Everything appears to be normal.

But since then, when launching Orbiter 2016, the launchpad is not populated with text and buttons for at least 8 seconds or so after doubleclicking the orbiter_ng exe. It's an empty launchpad. After this wait, the launchpad does get populated and Orbiter runs fine. But this delay is annoying and I did not have this problem before while running Win81.

Actually I think the problem was introduced after installing Windows 10 October update and that Orbiter was still behaving normal with the earlier version of Win10 which I got on my system after upgrading Win81. But I am unsure about this.

The problem only occurs when I enable the GeForce 950M with the Nvidia config tool. Then, in Orbiter, only the 950M can be selected. The integrated graphics is not listed.

When I launch the Nvidia config and set the option to not always use the dedicated graphics chip but let the system decide, then the launchpad appears fast. But then I can only choose for integrated graphics. The 950M is not listed. So I have to select the 'always use dedicated graphics card' setting in the Nvidia config. But that makes Orbiter's launchpad to launch slow.

Does anybody know what could be causing the delay at startup? I didn't find any clues in the logfile.

Thanks for any suggestions.

The problem seems to be caused by the latest Nvidia driver for my Geforce, 26.21.14.3064. When I do a clean install of Windows 10, version 23.21.13.8857 is installed which does not delay the starting of Orbiter's launchpad.

There seem to be important security fixes in the latest driver, so I'll stick with it for now.

Edit: I am not sure if this problem only occurs on my system, or perhaps only with the hardware: Geforce GTX950M. Can anybody confirm that their launchpad is still launching fast while using the newest Nvidia driver?

I will check tonight!

That would be great. Orbiter runs better than ever on my modest laptop. I can even set 4 X AA and maintain 60fps. I wasn't able to do that before. So I'll keep this driver, but the delay at startup is a bit annoying.
