Sunrise Spaceport -- Day Seven

Posted 10-02-2011 at 12:58 AM by PeriapsisPrograde

She's starting to take shape!

While some users have been critcizing a 51.6*N location, it remains there at least for now. Does anyone have any specific suggestions?

The list of base objects stays the same for now:
1 -- 3 km runway facing east and west (DONE)
1 -- 3000*50 m taxiway parallel to runway (DONE)
6 -- Connections from taxiway to runway (DONE)
4 -- Connections from taxiway to tarmacs (DONE)
3 -- Tarmacs for hangars, terminals, and VTOLs (375*550, 525, and 450, respectively) (DONE)
3 -- 25*50 m hangars (DONE)
15 - 50*50 m hangars (DONE)
2 -- 100*100 m hangars (17 in all) (DONE)
3 -- 75*50 m passenger terminals (DONE)
5 -- Hangrails
5 -- 50*50 m VTOL pads (DONE)
2 -- 100*100 VTOL pads (DONE)
2 -- Space shuttle launch pads (possibly others) (DONE)
1 -- Navigational VOR for instrument approaches
1 -- Control tower

I have created some meshes for the base:
11 - Softened corner -- 7 vertices
9 -- Smoothed corner (opposite of above mesh) -- 7 vertices
8 -- Taxiway connections; )( shape -- 16 vertices
17 - Custom hangar -- 20 vertices
1 -- Main taxiway and leftmost and center tarmacs -- 44 vertices
1 -- VTOL pad tarmac -- 52 vertices
A total of 697+shuttle pads vertices for scenery (Good? Too many?)

I tried to make one huge mesh for ground objects, but it... uhm... didn't work.

Thanks for all of your comments and suggestions!

Have you finished the textures? and i think you should place this base near the shore (maybe south of Spain, or Hawaii...)

    EDIT:

Don't you think the Launch Pads are a bit too close to each other? (see background)

Nah. This base doesn't have the space for one launch pad safely, (real shuttle pads are miles away, these are 1km), so I thought, why not?

It probably does need a rethought...
