What happens when I'm given a keyboard and literally any spare time at all to write.

Contains my own personal opinions, not those of the sites I represent unless stated otherwise. Literally no rights reserved, except for the fiction category, which you can share provided my name stays on it as author. Unless you totally rewrite something inspired by my work, which would be downright awesome and I'd be wonderfully happy about that.

    Short, III

The government employee part of me wants to be glib and says "well at least he has room to stand up now, and he's not hanging upside down". Always look for win-win right?
Normal(ish) me says "Good work, keep it up".

Gary - it's not massively loud, nor is the bump exceptionally massive, but it's infinitely better than a rubber dome. I'd say it's comparable to the model M in mechanics (though the buckled springs did provide a slightly better typing sensation) but excels in both maintenance (it's a LOT easier to put the keys back on after taking them off, although the unlabelled ones mean I need to concentrate harder on where each key goes) because the switches are contained, and in aesthetics... just look at it!

If and when I ever get back on TS you'll hear how clicky it is, but my overall typing noise has decreased, as I'm not bottoming out on the old rubber-dome keyboard and wasting lots of energy making noise - the switches handle that for me.

Clicky? Does the keyboard have a serious 'click' noise when you type? I miss that from the old IBM keyobards:

These ones have serious tactile feeling and nice loud CLICK sounds.

Today we live in a world where the skycrane WORKED.

Thats the best achievement I can think of, I reall had my doubts that it would work. it was such an ambitious way to put a rover on Mars and so complex that it seemed impossible.

But it worked. This means that some scientist who had this crazy idea of the skycrane x years ago has been validated.

Amazing stuff, I look forward to what other discoveries Curiosity makes.

Firstly, I love spaceflight and I love sport. I find the Olympics fun and interesting.

While you can compare Curiosity and the Olympics, in the end, the people will find what they can relate to easier to enjoy and understand. Most of us (humans) have, at some point, done some of the sports played at the Olympics. We know how hard it is to swim, run and throw metal things. Very few of people understand the technological know how to land a rover on Mars (or even launch a rocket). Even fewer have actually done it.

The news is designed to provide most of the population with an acceptable understanding of the events around them. In order to do that they need to filter the hundreds of news items from around the world and show the ones that matter to the most people or are the most important. Due to the popularity of the Olympics, obviously it is going to get more news time. We (humans) can understand the work that goes into getting better at sport. It is something we can relate too. So when it is on, we watch it and know full well what went into winning that gold medal.

Space is much harder to cover as news. As most people don't understand it, you need more time to provide background for it. This takes time and energy. Something news outlets don't have much off. So they provide the minimum and move on to something people can relate too.

Anyway, this is what the internet is good for. Connecting like minded people that have interests that are not very mainstream. I hope this provides some explanation as to why...

I had a little peek at its description, that actually looks really helpful for tidying up all these redpower microblocks. Thanks Orb!

I just had an email asking me if I'd fixed something when the original email asked 'is it possible to [insert list of bizzare permission requirements]'.

So now I have to have a look at how to do this stuff.... off to the test lab!

When I was younger, I assumed that when bosses went to 'boss-school', that they were taught there how to assume that people knew what they were thinking, and could naturally fill in any blanks left by the boss. Now of course, I realize that it just occurs naturally when you 'boss'. It clearly is related to the uncanny ability to walk around the corner at the precise moment that the worker who's been diligently, hard at work all day, stops to take a breather and ask a co-worker a question.

It's an effect, I think, of 'Bossness' itself.

I kind of feel your pain. Or rather, I used to be able to feel your pain. The job I have now is under a contract. The management is forbidden (regardless of what they think) to give me extra responsibilities without compensation without renegotiation.

That being said, there are things I do "for free" just to keep their butts out of the fire. I don't mind them getting a bit toasty every now and then, but I don't want anybody to get burned... Except for our old maint/mods manager, he's left the whole maintenance dept out on a limb in the past. I keep thinking that Ka will get him one of these days.

Now you're probably thinking, I've seen TMI before, what a ripoff. What makes this one so much better? For a detailed explanation read on. A simple list is below.
    • Recipe Mode (Crafting, Smelting, Brewing)
    • Item Searching
    • Item Subset Dropdown menu (Hiding\Showing)
    • Complete SMP support if installed on server
    • Enchantment Sector
    • All types of Mob Spawners obtainable and place able.
    • Magnetic Mode
    • Heal Button
    • Mob Spawners in SMP show the mob type
    • Advanced configuration files
    • In game Options Menu
    • A few handling tweaks
    • An Extended API supporting extended item damages, mod based sorting tags and custom recipes with ModLoader type loader
There are also plug-ins allowing to show Railcraft, Buildcraft, RedPower, IC2, Forestry, Thaumcraft (whatever it is) specific recipes.

Those mods got me on to another mod called Railcraft which introduces signalling and high-speed rail and proper junctions and trains and...
    Yeah, Railcraft is great.

(though 1.3 is, from the looks of it, about to royally break all the mods again
If Forge/FML get updated to Minecraft 1.3.1 (already), then I can't see problems with mods like IC2, Buildcraft being updated too. MCP is almost ready for being released.

(along with my essential TMI mod)
Replace it with NEI (ChickenBones Mods). You'll never want to go back to TMI.

Not that you need even MOAR stuff, but if you like IC2, Buildcraft and RedPower, might I suggest you look at The Technic Pack: http://www.technicpack.net/
