VSA Development 3

Well I made more updates to the outline that I think should be posted today. In the future I'll stick to 1 post per day, but I got more done today than I thought I would. As I said in my previous post, I'm working on the mission structure (assignment/execution/report) which will be sections 4 and 5 in the outline. I started out section 4 and made some good progress.

Again, I have some questions; How in depth should the mission manifest be? Just enough information so pilots know if they should apply, and the more detailed things (such as launchpad, inc at launch, cargo) being given to the pilot upon assignment? And does anyone know how missions should be reported, so management can determine if it was executed properly. An obvious way is to have them upload the mission playback to the site (more on that in the future), but that requires a manual check and would be very time consuming. A SQL database could be used, but I don't even know what information would be sent to it from orbiter, or how it could be set up. I believe someone was developing a tracking client, so I'll have to track them down (pardon the pun). Would Flight Recorder MFD be helpful?

That's all for today. Hopefully more progress will be made tomorrow.
Final Outline version for today
Changes from yesterday:
Addition of Flight training program
Section 4-Mission assignment
Addition of 'fig #' for better graphic refrence.

It's not letting me view the document, says it's not available.

I'm inclined to say that detailed mission manifests would be best. It'd make all the relevant information available for anybody to see (and use, should they want to replicate the official flights). Plus it would provide a more immersive feeling of realism.

I don't know anything about a flight recorder, but perhaps a team of several could analyze the playback by dividing it into equal portions. One person does the first five minutes, another does the second, and so on. There's no reason for one person to watch the whole thing when several people could split it up.

Keep up the good work! I get more and more optimistic with every post you make.

Hmm does this link work? I think I reloaded the doc to google docs without changing the link. Sorry! The idea of splitting playback into equal portions could work, granted we have enough Class leaders.

Yeah, that works. The additions look good. I'm guessing time acceleration is okay, right? If so, does total flight time mean mission time or the actual amount of time you spent doing it (e.g. where 10 minutes at 10x is considered to be 1 minute of flight time)? I'd wager on the former but I just want to be sure.

You were correct about both-time acceleration and mean mission time. Ill clarify those tomorrow

it was me that was starting the tracking client but the first version will be very minimal due to my programming skill

If you want tracking you can use the inbuilt flight recorder wic captures 27 parameters. You don't want this for every phase of the flight, just the crucial bits.

I keep my in a mysql database just because it's easier to pull the data out in Google Earth format or a chart format.

garyw: I like your idea, but do you mean the flight recorder MFD? That's the only thing I know of. I was looking into a MySQL database, but I haven't a clue what to do, so I'll have to teach myself if I want to do that.

Yes, that's the one. Depending on how you want to do things you can have a file uploaded automatically, or have a file submitted then upload it yourself.

the one that i am develuping is hopefully gonna add up all the fuel used transfer that into the current fuel cost and same with lox and just cover how many miles have been traveled and how many days it took and then be able to export a notepad file out of it so you can upload it to your vsa very simple at the moment

Alexw95: Sounds like you're well on your way with that . Don't forget to include data from MFDs (PeA, ApA, Ecc, etc..)
