MTS Shuttle System

Jarvis SC Developement Division

MTS Shuttle System

Purpose: Reusable craft to carry up to 4 men & 5000kg cargo up to GEO for about 2 week operation time.

System elements:

Vertigo Shuttle - Spaceplane with 4 x 6 m payload bay and APAS system under the nosecone.
MTS Launch System - LOX/Kerosene core stage + Solid Rocket Boosters. designed to carry shuttle with payload into ~250x250 km parking orbit

MTS - Launch configuration

Project currently is alpha stage - meshes, textures, multistage and spacecraft INI files are done.

Currently I'm working on good aerodynamic parameters.

    MTS UPDATE 01

    For mk1 release there are plans for:

    - 2d cockpit panel
    - VC (if it's not too hard to model & incorporate)
    - COG shifting for reentry
    - hold AOA/bank reentry autopilot
    - configurable launch autopilot (you set target inclination)
    - UMMU/UCGO compatibility
    - Payload Manager
    - custom sounds

    Basically I want this craft to perform in the atmosphere similar to DG (except those powerfull DG's engines) with classic 40deg AOA during reentry. They're comparable in size and mass.

    From 250x250 km equatorial LEO craft will be able to lift itself to GEO, perform desired task (eg. repair a satellite) and then descent back to earth.

    UPDATE 02

    Kick Stage added.

    To allow GEO operations launch vechicle has beed augmented with new kick stage for placing Shuttle into hi APA orbit from wich shuttle can perform GEO insertion. (something similar to S-IVB)

    Also for GEO mission maximum payload is now 2000 kg

    MTS-GEO LAUNCH CONFIGURATION

    For LEO operations (ISS, MIR etc.) shuttle can launch with only core stage & SRB's

    Some technical data:

    max G during lift-off & ascent :4G for 30 sec.

    Also main 2d panel is ready

    And now I'm working on RCS thrusters
