Arrow Launch System - Behind the Scenes

Posted 03-18-2012 at 08:46 PM by Hurricane

Hi everyone, sorry about the delay... With the recent stupid war that our government decided to jump into it's been kinda hard to find the time to work on the Arrow.
However, the war settled in the recent days so I managed to find some relaxed moments to make sure all my calculations were right and also start to make some final adjustments to the looks before I can port it over to Orbiter, for real.
I'm pretty sure about the fuel amounts, I have also left some free room in the fuselage...

A remarkable achievement (and a nice DG tale!)

Well, here's something that I don't think most of you have done:
A full reentry: from deorbit, through EI, to constant drag to the HAC and a perfect landing.
There's a catch to it however: all unpowered (except the deorbit burn of course!) and WITHOUT ADDON MFDS >>AT ALL!<<
Have you ever done that? Well I don't wanna be rude, but I don't think you have (;

Never have I used external MFDs, especially for reentries for 2 reasons:
1) I dislike them...

Arrow Launch System - A few words on propulsion

Posted 02-06-2012 at 06:10 PM by Hurricane

Okay, I'll keep this one short, but I really had to address this problem.
So, a short calculation revealed that the RS-68, that produces about 3,370,000 Newtons of thrust, gives me about 350,000 kgf of thrust.
That's way too much, considering that I have 2 of these engines on the Arrowhead and it weighs about 42,500 at gross takeoff weight (by gross takeoff weight I mean fully loaded, no fuel.).
Now I saw that the J-2X gives me about 1,310,000 Newtons, about 131,000 kilograms...

The Arrow System - What's On Paper

Posted 02-05-2012 at 03:04 PM by Hurricane

So I decided to let y'all know that the Arrow System isn't dead - I just don't have the time to devote to actually develop it for now. I have a ton of other things on my head and I don't want to work on several projects simultaneously.
First of all, since the system is clearly no more the Arrowhead, I decided to call it the Arrow Space System [Hmm, ASS? ] or the Space System Arrow [SSA, sounds a bit better], or the Arrow Space Transportation System [I think that one is too long to remember...
