"From The Earth To The Moon"

Posted 01-04-2010 at 04:20 AM by Gumdrop

I just about have finished the award-winning HBO series "From The Earth To The Moon". Produced in 1998 by Tom Hanks this twelve part journey is by far the one of the most inspiring and motivating piece of works I have discovered.

With a $65 million budget, the series retells the story of the Apollo program with excruciating scrutiny. We always recognized the Apollo astronauts as monuments, but the series transforms the astronauts into everyday human beings with real emotions. The acting is so convincing, I begin to wonder if Mark Harmon actually did fly on Apollo 7.

Each part is different from the next. Each part has a few central characters examining a unique aspect of the program. Grumman management, astronauts' wives, Apollo I, and the story of the Genesis rock just scratch the surface.

Personal favorites: The part which retells the events leading up to the launch Apollo 7, hilarious Apollo 12 crew led by Pete Conrad, and Apollo 15 crew showing the magic moments of field work on the moon.

I tell you, I can never watch NCIS without thinking of Wally Schirra.
