The Moon is over-exposed which makes it look fake, both because of the lack of detail and the hard edges.

Actually, that is the official excuse. This is just another NASA cover-up - not only were the Apollo landings faked, the Moon is fake also.

The reason it looks so fake is because we're looking at the moon through the atmosphere, whereas that picture sees the moon without the obscuring effect provided by 200ish km of air, ozone and other such stuff.

If anything doesnt represent reality, it is the view of the moon we have from the surface. The astronauts are seeing it as it really is.
