Default KSC News - Mobile Launcher Platform 1

Mobile Launcher Platform 1 Handover Ceremony On Wednesday, March 25, at 9 a.m., NASA TV will air coverage of a ceremony to mark the handover of the Mobile Launcher Platform 1 from NASA's Space Shuttle Program to the Constellation Program. The event will be broadcast live on closed-circuit TV, Channel 7.

With Wednesday's handover, the two-story steel structure now will be modified for NASA's first test flight for the agency's next-generation spacecraft and launch vehicle system launching in 2009. The test flight, called Ares I-X, will bring NASA one step closer to its exploration goals.

Most all of
Ares I-X is already in High Bay 4 of the VAB waiting to be stacked in HB3.

Yes, a new Mobile Launcher is currently under construction for Ares. As you can see with your photo. However the test flight, Ares I-X, will fly off of modified MLP-1.

BTW: MLP-1 has rolled from Pad B into HB3 of VAB this week making ready for tonights rollout of
ENDEAVOUR to Pad B. The VAB HB3 is directly across the aisle from HB4 where Ares I-X is staged waiting for stacking operations.

Also with this move we will once again have a shutlle on each pad. If you happen to see photos of this you will notice Pad B now has three new lightning towers 500 feet tall.
