Lightbulb New idea for sun

Hello everybody
It's my first thread on this forum
So, I have an idea for a better sun look in Orbiter. So, it'll be like 3D Sun addon but: sun sprite will be blank and it will have an atmosphere. It'll be able to give us a better experience for landing on the sun (reentry flames itc.) The atmosphere will give the same effect as the sprite, but it'll look better. It should be also very big. Imagine that, you're flying to Mercury, but your ship burns in sun atmosphere

It could be cool. What do you think?

Sorry for bad english

MESSENGER currently orbits Mercury and is in excellent condition, according to the picture it sent to us...

Nice idea!

PS: That's not bad english. It's actualy very good. Watch one of my classe's english lessons though, and then you will see bad english, at a 7th or 6th grade level, while we are on the 9th.

I foresee weird graphical glitches... also, you can't draw on an atmosphere. All atmospheres' appearance along the planet's limb is defined by a little 64x64 DDS file.

I think that's why it was posted in the OVP forum. Graphics clients don't need to use the Horizon.dds at all for the atmospheric haze, and they can render their own graphical features, and can eliminate those graphical glitches which might be otherwise present when such a star would be used in inline client.

Thank you for reading.
So, how can I start? I haven't created any planet yet, but only textures. Can I use my own horizon.dds for my sun(a single file only for it)?

Ehm... Since when is it possible to land on a big ball o' fire? And Reentry flames seem pretty useless to me, since your ship will get vaporized in real when flying near the sun.

It was only a joke

Ok, I've made something:D
But the problem is: the sun is always dark gray, but from some views it becomes lighter. Any ideas?

Exactly. After installing an earth atmosphere mod, which edit horizon.dds the Newsun will become blue on normal graphic client(orbiter.exe), but on e.g. D3D9Client. It will always look the same.

I've set the atmosphere, so it should be now white, BUT IT'S GRAY

So, I've fixed "black hole bug" by adding texture, but there is still few problems:
-atmosphere is incorrectly renderning
-atmosphere is renderning only to ~50 G altidute max(you can't see the atmosphere, when you're on Mercury) orbiter limit?

I've attached screenshots.
