Author: icarus at home ALIENs Sulaco For Orbiter 2010 This Add-on is the Sulaco and dropship from the movie Aliens, I was inspired to do this after downloading ALIEN (revisited) ADD-On Required add-ons : *Vinka's Spacecraft3 dll *http://users.swing.be/vinka/ OTHER ADD_ONS NEEDED BUT NOT INCLUDED: *Relativistic Warp MFD 1.5 by Nicker43 http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=4547 *Orbiter Sound 3.5 & UCGO 2.0 by Dan Steph *http://orbiter.dansteph.com/index.php?disp=d *RWarp *AutoHover MFD Spaceship free flight: All the thrust controls and attitude controls are standard Orbiter fair. Animation keys are as follows: Sulaco: g Rotate Gun k Open/Close Hatch Dropship: g Landing Gear k Ramp L-SHIFT + NUM PAD 4 Open/Close Missile Pods (Turn Off Num Lock first) Dropshiptransport: g Landing Gear k Ramp KNOWN ISSUES: Frame rate drag especially with lower levels of ram / slower processors etc..., some meshes are massive relative to the norm for Orbiter, a consequence of exporting from Google Sketch-up No textures on dropships, I am still learning, this is my first Add-on Don't forget to un-dock the Dropship from the Sulaco BEFORE landing, this is a limitation of ORBITER. Cheers, Jim. CREDITS: ALIENS - UD-4L Cheyenne Utility Dropship was created by: Griffith Sulaco2 model was created by D.Proctor DOWNLOAD |

This addon seems to work just fine, and the guys who created the sketchup models did a very good job. I thought that was a nice touch giving the transport and the dropship aerodynamic properties. Overall, this is an enjoyable addon and I had fun flying the ships.

Looks OUTSTANDING! Hillarious that you've beaten me to it! I've been very slowly tinkering and cobbeling together an Aliens Add-on as a follow-up to my original Alien (Revisited).
GREAT WORK. Maybe I should get my butt in gear and do the rest of the Hadely's Hope base etc... |

Hadely's Hope base would be awesome, please feel free to make improvements and post them. If anyone wants the model files I can post them too. I am going to start working on some Aliens Universe concept ship like the Deep space salvage ship which finds Ripley. There are not enough ships in the movies so if anyone has some good ideas let me know. I am also look forward to the Prometheus movie to see what new ship can be added.

Hi Chris, Joining forces sound like a great idea, could result in a great Orbiter Aliens Universe. The ship I have been working on is just a modified version of the Nostromo, I figure there would have to be several versions of it. I was thinking of calling it a survey ship. I am also working on the APC vehicle, but I am having problems converting 3ds files to mesh, I end up with hundreds of groups. I’m still learning! I have added some screen shots.

Hi Jim,
The scout looks AWESOME! 2 observations. 1: to convert to a mesh I've converted Sketch-up models using blender to 3Ds BUT then done all my work in the very old Anim8or program. Most of the utilities for orbiter (which I've encountered) work best with it. 2: I noticed with the scout images and the Sulaco that the model has a lot of fine detail (plates, hull grooves, turrets, etc etc etc) So you get a 'textured' feeling even without any "textures". This is where the high poly-count is coming from. I think the Sulaco model is a good compromise. Besides, computers are just getting better and faster so in a year or two it won't be a problem (LOL) You can email me directly at christopher.c.moon@gmail.com Cheers Chris
