Colored nicks for minors
Sometimes I forget that youngsters frequent the forum.
The last thing I want to happen is a misunderstanding while communicating in the forum or the chatbox, especially with minors.
I inadvertantly asked ky if his nick referred to the lubricant or the state. By the way he's handled himself I thought he was an adult. That was before I looked up his profile to send him a friendship request. He's 14.
A unique color for the nicks of minors might be an appropriate solution. If I had known he was so young I would not have made that remark.
I'm trying hard to clean up my act while not becoming a stick in the mud. While the remark wasn't too disturbing, I'd like to identify problems before they arise.

We would prefer that you conduct yourself in a manner appropriate for minors being present all of the time (because even on the rare occurance that they are not present, they soon will be). The forum rules state as much.

I agree with 'TB', you should treat all like they are adults. Treat them as the glden rule states, and give them the respect you give yourself. Just my 2c.

I agree that we should all be treated the same, I honestly could be fine either way. It could matter no less to me whether or not my name is blue, orange, purple, rainbow,(yes i realize this is not a tag color) or whatever. I'm going to say the same things anyways.

After thinking on it, I agree. Not to mention, doing something to designate them as minors would, in my opinion at least, compromise their privacy, and also make them an easy target for the freaks that scan the web 'in search of trouble,' so to speak. |

i doubt anyone here is under the age of 14, but yes, treat everyone like adults...even if the act childish sometimes *guilty*

If this does get implemented, I'd like it to be optional. IMO a lot of the minors are singled out enough as they are.

I cannot see any problems as we have forum rules and there is a report tab on all posts made for those who wish to use it.
I treat everyone as an adult. I am, like one poster has admitted, somewhat sarcastic and childish myself and would hate a moderator or admin member slapping a "coloured nick" under my pic as punishment when I am.

Even more important: Don't write stuff, that you wouldn't want to see attributed to you on a large billboard on the most frequented road of your town. A very easy and very important rule in the Internet, because things are not far from that model. The internet does not forget.
Only because you are adult, this does not mean you are saying adult stuff all the time in every situation.
Also, remember that this board is frequented by people from MANY countries and different cultures. Most have a much more innocent approach to their posts as you might believe.
