One of those weird sequences of events

Posted 02-13-2014 at 06:43 AM by Izack

The other day, I was shown this video:

After the chuckling was over I thought 'hey, this song is strangely catchy.' Looked it up and ended up hearing most of the album thanks to Youtube.

I'm prone to night terrors, rarely but occasionally themed from scraps of recent memory. A full 24 hours later it's very hazy, and I wouldn't remember it at all if not for the fact that it featured a severed head sitting on my chest that...

Design philosophy

Posted 09-29-2013 at 01:38 AM by Izack

So, on returning to the Deepstar 3 codebase and having a look around, I've become unsatisfied with the level of simulation. I started by forking over certain functionality to different classes, and what I ended up with was a system where individual major components (main/rcs engines, fuel cells, environment controllers) became their own class. It's interesting to see the program's structure take on the appearance of the actual spacecraft's.

I do wonder, though, as a still-inexperienced...

WIP Starship (read: Giant Cone)

Here it is so far:

My first 3D model and first completely original Orbiter...thing. It'll get better. I hope.

In the mean time, I'm in the middle of the idea phase. Here's what I want it to do, at least for now:

1. Be capable of interstellar and interplanetary flight using magical antimatter whatever engines (MAWEs.) Accelerates nominally at ~10m/s^2.

Underwhelming Python labs (compsci)

Posted 09-26-2011 at 07:06 PM by Izack
Updated 09-26-2011 at 07:08 PM by Izack

Today I had a 4-hour lab period in which I was expected to write a program that takes an image and makes it grayscale. We work in a watered-down Python environment running in Java (WHY?!).

Obviously it took about 5 minutes to boot the computer, setup the environment and write a paragraph, then submit it:

Code:
def grayScale(redWeight,greenWeight,blueWeight):
  pic=makePicture(pickAFile())
  show(pic)
  for p in getPixels(pic):
    r = getRed(p)*redWeight
...
