More progress this evening. The second coat of paint has been applied to frame, joystick mount, and throttle mount, as well as to the rudder pedals. I'm no Michelangelo, but I'm pleased with how it has turned out. I will probably bring it back out at some point and do a little sanding/touch up work in some spots, but I'm ready to get this wrapped up and get flying. The DCS A-10C is calling my name...

Once the paint dries, I'll need to re-attach the rudder mount boards, bring...

First day of the mission is now in the history books. All boards are showing green although about an hour ago a small leak was detected in 1 of the unpowered hydroponics modules. Turned out to be a false alarm so the sensor was changed out with a spare.

Mission timeline is as follows:
  • T+30 hours MCC 2 (will use the reverse direction ETEs in their first burn of the mission)
  • T+2 days Calculate Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Injection burn parameters, shut down hydroponics, life support,

DIY Flightsims - Floor Unit with Center Joystick - Progress Update 2

Painting Day! The mounting boards for the rudders have been removed and labeled. The first coat of paint has been applied and is drying as I type.

Next step - once this coat dries, flip the unit up on its 'back' and paint the bottom. After that dries, back down on its base and apply the second coat.

Quick pic of the first coat (Apologies for blurriness. Tired, and the iPhone 4S has one of the worst phone cameras I've ever used).

So far the mission has gone without any major issues. During the TEI, the TransX MFD crashed and had to be rebooted. This was in the middle of the burn so the attitude was already locked in and the burn in progress. Backup timers allowed us to complete the burn manually and no Mid Course Correct (MCC) was required at the first MCC opportunity.

During the TEI burn, EHE engine #13 ran a little hotter than expected and EHE engines # 4 and 10 ran a little cooler, but all were within normal...

We've disconnected from the Lunar Station and have officially begun SSTV-01 Mission #1.

All remaining tasks were completed as scheduled and the undocking occurred right at T-0. All systems are green and after a short station keeping period at the Lunar Station we will fire our reverse RCS thrusters for 30 seconds to move us away before our TEI burn.

All main and RCS engine burns will be calculated using software on board SSTV-01 with no help from ground control. All...
