VASO Development 16

Updates this week are few, but still progress.

First and foremost, I finished the forums on the site. They are looking good (in my opinion), and it was good to get them out of the way. I realized I messed up while making the authenticated home page, so I will have to reconfigure that, but its not a huge deal. Still to-do is the mission sign-up page (which is the last huge thing), and adjusting settings so it all works out. Does anyone have suggestions on other pages I can include?...

On Projects, Fiction and the Hilarity of German Words

Posted 08-09-2010 at 04:24 PM by Izack

I seem to have invented a new management tactic: Seat-of-the-Pants Administration. As you may know, the Lite subsection of OFMM can be described as anything from 'interesting' to 'laughable.' (Not my opinion, but I have my sources...) I do admit, my handling of the project is quite shaky, as I've neither held such a role nor tried such a complex task before, both of which are evident. Anyway, there are only two things I can do about this: quit the project or get better at it, and the first response...

Weird thoughts - terms

Posted 08-07-2010 at 04:37 AM by Usquanigo

The other day, I had a weird thought go through my head. Kind of like how some of us wondered what we would call the new "ought" years (2001 through 2009), and if we would call 2000, two thousand, or twenty hundred (lol).

So right now - we have 1 moon that really matters to us here on Earth. So it is THE moon. We also have 1 sun that matters, so it is THE sun.

Well... when we start colonizing other planets, then what? "The moon" could mean anything....

The Red Planet

Posted 08-07-2010 at 02:57 AM by Izack

Lately, with all of the OFMM-related things I've been doing, and reading Kim Stanley Robinson's Red Mars (excellent novel, by the way; it's quickly becoming one of my favourites) I've been getting a high dose of Mars-related information. It's developed into a fascination - a near-obsessive drive to learn more of it. I've even made sightings of it at night. With an old dusty telescope I found in the basement, I've managed to reveal nothing more than a dull red dot, but it's quite enough. I've seen...

2010 Add-on Blues

Posted 08-04-2010 at 10:18 PM by jholley309

Okay, so I'm thinking the list of "working" add-ons for 2010 seems to depend on your idea of "working"...

For instance: the SpaceX Falcon1/9/Dragon add-on. Okay, the rockets seem to work okay (except for the fact that the payload fairing just winks out of existence when you jettison it on the 9 and 9H, but that's not as bad as the disappearing stages on the Francophone Proton), but the scenarios direct you to use Kev Shanow's highly detailed (and quite beautiful)...
