Doctor Who classic season 1 review

The "new" Who is pretty good, the effects are far-and-away improved over the original. Chris Eccleston I thought was credible as a Doctor, a bit brooding, but then again he did just finish the Time Lord vs Dalek war. David Tennant was an excellent mix of originality, with a good dose of Doctors 4 and 5 thrown in the mix.
Matt Smith seems a bit too much like Tennant. Maybe a mix of Tennant and Eccleston? He really needs to stretch the character a bit and "own" it, but I think he's doing well with it [/opinion]. IIRC David Tennant did suggest the role to him.
I would have like to have seen Paul McGann have more opportunity than that horrible made-for-TV movie (really, the Doctor in San Francisco, what the heck?). But it did have a cool opening music theme.

Thanks! Great review, by the way; wasn't intending on watching older Who but at least now I'm not completely ignorant of it.

Doctor Who classic season 1 review

Nice review! I've been a fan of the Doctor since the early 80's. The first episode I can remember seeing is when the second Dr. was forced to change into the third Doctor. So in a roundabout fashion John Pertwee was "my" Doctor. My daughter nearly lusted after David Tennant (which caused me a bit of distress since she was, like 15 or something...).
Anyway, I remember reading that one of the Doctors repaired, the chameleon circuit, but she (the TARDIS) remained a Police Box anyway. For the life of me though I can;t remember which book I read that in. I may still have it tucked away with all my other paperbacks (covered with still more paperbacks). If I can find it, I'll post the name/title.
I've got another one (closer to the top of the pile) that had to do with the schism that caused the Doctor to leave Gallifrey in the first place. He didn't exactly "steal" the TARDIS (well, yes he took it), but the TARDIS chose him to take.
The books are not exactly cannon, but then Dr. Who isn't really known for being cannon now is it? That is one thing I like about Whovians over Trekkers. Whovians generally don't take themselves too seriously.

Orbiter Galaxy is taking a break

I was wondering if Orbiter Galaxy can be used to simulate a complete trip to a nearby star system. Say in scenario 1 the ship is in system A. Then as the ship leaves the system, Orbiter Galaxy loads an empty scenario with no planets or asteroid. This is to simulate the trip through interstellar space. The force acting on the ship to make it drift from its path etc can be calculated by an external application or Orbiter Galaxy itself in this scenario. Then when the ship is about to enter system B then load a 3rd scenario with the proper planets etc.

Hahah, I know exactly what you mean. I doubt I'll play Orbiter for a year once Skyrim is released.

The latest build is not consistent within itself (only the standalone .exe has been worked on, and since the generation routines have been re-arranged it's not even producing the same galaxy as the orbiter plug-in currently), and the only feature that has been added is the planning of FTL-jumproutes. I've got your p.m., I'll send you the file somewhen today, but I don't think it will be of much interest to anyone else, and it certainly isn't suited for public release.

I've had enough projects that that happened to. Could we have the latest build you've made, though (or, at least, as close to the latest build as you feel is presentable to the outside world)?

Have fun with Dragon Age and other fantasy games. I enjoy them very much too! Currently I am completely captured by Oblivion and Morrowind. That doesn't prevent me to devote several tens of minutes each day to Orbiter though. Here my 2 years break and longing for Orbiter plays its role. Hopefully your break won't be that long.
See you. Have a good time!

    Fair enough.
Take your time off and have fun! I do that often, too, whenever a pet project turns out to be hard work... enough of the later in real life

Orbiter Galaxy searches for a colaborator

almost a hundred views, no-one yet interested in the job. Looks like I'll have to go on sucking stuff out of my fingers as I go along. It isn't unexpected, since there are not too many qualified and most of them are engaged in their own projects. The community will just have to life with me posting some weird questions in the physics forum every other day, then...

This weekend is the official start of 0.7 developement. Let's see where this is going to take me.

May God stand between you and harm...

Actually God is just a not necessary word. Universe is here because it's here, not because of God. Love is love, is not something from God. People like to rejoin everything to one single point, God, but this doesn't have sense and is not even necessary for anything.
You can enjoy/fear the huge Universe anyway.
It's even more awesome if you think that the whole is just there for nothing, and not because someone decided this. And there is such a perfection anyway.
    Good luck with your project.
