GASS- early stages

Welcome, to the Grover-Ascension Space Station, the combined efforts of Altea Aerospace, Ascension International and the Grover corporation!

This is going to be my first personal orbiter project, the complete construction of an orbital space station, using the XR5 and Space station building blocks.

I will be launching from Wideawake, placing the station into orbit with a plane close to that of the Moon, with an orbital altitude of approximately 400Km

This will be a perfectly honest blog, where I will report every success, and every failure, if I accidentally burn up on re-entry, I get a chance to rethink my strategy, with a fresh new XR5 (thankfully, the Grover corporation has near unlimited funding, and Altea aerospace does a 20% discount :D)

To be honest, I wont be taking this INCREDIBLY seriously, I simply chose the modules/parts I need, then launch and put them wherever I please once I get up there.

Of course, I will post screenshots, and maybe even scenarios after each mission, so people could have their own play about with my station

My work is limited of course by some small bugs in the software, I will have to "Cheat" to get rid of these (some people may know of the "spinning solar panel" bug which I will just edit the SCN file to get around)

Thanks guys

Good idea to just jettison the solar panels and edit the scenario :3

How is the Dragonfly attached to the XR5 btw? I might attach other stuff in the same way just for fun..

right now im trying to sort out stack management, so i can use the dragonfly more effectlvley... not doing too well at the moment

Good luck! You could use the universal cargo deck to arrange modules and truss segments however you please in the payload bay.

Good news! the final lineup for the launch vehicles has been decided!

The XR5 will carry most modules to the station
the Tranzit tug, developed in the "Space Tugs" range has been chosen as a construction vehicle, and shall be launched atop its counterpart, the Energia

    mission plans:
[1] launch the tug into specified orbit, marking the location of the new station
[2] XR5 makes for the tug, then the tug is used to construct the first truss/hab parts to make the station
[3] (most likely) solar panels to relieve the on-station batteries of their load

    mission launches tomorrow, night folks!
