After launching from LC-14 at Cape Canaveral 4 days ago, Columbia 12 made an emergency landing in the Gibson Desert in northern Australia. The pilot, Matt Crispin, was soon picked up and brought back to Cape Kennedy. The cause of the forced landing was a malfuntion of the batteries and oxygen supply. This close call will not stop or slow the upcoming Gemini flights, which will further man's exploration of space:
