Summer trip

Posted 05-15-2012 at 07:21 PM by george7378

Hi everyone!

Some of you might remember I planned a summer trip to America - well I've cut down my original plans a bit, and I'll be visiting New York, Chicago and Washington for a week each. I don't know if anyone's going to be about in those areas! I'm really hoping to see Discovery in the Smithsonian in Washington - does anyone know if it's on display yet (or will be in August)? I'm also pretty excited because during some of my flights I'll have to stop over at airports in Philadelphia and Atlanta, and also Amsterdam on the way there. I'm really excited!

I'm also trying to plan where to stay too.

Thanks for reading!

Discovery will be hard to get to as it is on display the Udvar Hazy Center near Dulles, which is a good drive away from the District. At the least, it is a Metrorail to commuter bus journey.

The National Air and Space Museum on the Mall, however, is still excellent and contains lots to look at and enjoy. I'd also recommend that you get a proper tour of the US Capitol.

We have lots of good food in The District, depending on where you are staying I can recommended some good cheap dives for a quality meal.

How long will you be staying in Atlanta during the stopover?

    Thanks for the help insanity.

I'm only going to be in Atlanta for 3 hours, so I doubt I'll see much, but still - I can add it to my list of cities!

Oh, cool! I haven't been to Schiphol and I hear it's a pretty big airport!

I'll be going with Delta for that part of the trip - the flight after the stopover is with KLM though.

When you're in Chicago, be sure to visit the Museum of Science and Industry to check out the Apollo 8 CM.

Yay! Chicago! It's a great city. Like Dan said, be sure to visit the Museum of Science and Industry, but the other museums are worth a visit, too. Field museum, Planetarium, etc. Try to catch a White Sox game when you are in town! It's great fun, and a very good experience.

Deep Dish pizza is a must have when you are in town. Depending on how much you are willing to spend, you could go to the very famous Pizzeria Uno, although there are slightly cheaper options. My personal recommendation would have to be Giordanos.

Do the must-see stuff as well. Sears Tower, Navy Pier, Watertower Place, etc. If you need any suggestions or stuff when you are in town, drop me a PM and I'll see how I can help. Are you staying in the city or in the suburbs?
